Endovenous Laser Ablation

Endovenous Laser Ablation

Endovenous laser treatment is a minimally invasive in-office alternative to the old fashioned vein stripping procedure. Instead of removing the vein form the leg, the vein is sealed off and left in place where it scars down and is absorbed. Usually the only discomfort is where the skin is numbed with a very fine needle. A very small laser is then placed into the vein and positioned using a Duplex scan. The area around the laser fiber is then numbed using Tumescent technique. Pulses of light are delivered inside the vein as the laser is slowly withdrawn and the vein is sealed shut.

After the procedure, you will be asked to:

Walk immediately – go shopping
Walk often
Wear compression hose for 48 hours day and night
After the first 48 hours, wear your hose whenever you are up, for a total of two weeks
Cool your legs before you get out of a warm shower or bath
Most patients are able to go back to work the next day
